Who attends the Hoffman Process?
People come with a strong desire to make lasting positive changes and to accelerate their personal growth and development. 90% of participants are between the ages of 30 and 60. Many are executives or professionals, their spouses and other adult family members and friends. Since 1967, more than 70,000 people worldwide have used the Process to achieve greater balance, inner peace, vitality and overall well being.
Over the years, hundreds of psychotherapists have participated in the Hoffman Process and experienced the Process as a safe place to do their own work and to create lasting changes. Subsequently they have referred many of their clients as a powerful addition to individual therapy.
Why do people come to the Process?
People come to the Hoffman Process to improve the quality of their lives and to create lasting positive change.
There are many reasons why people choose to do the Process. These include, but are not limited to issues with intimacy, relationship, family, career, creativity, and personal power; enthusiasm, energy and depression; spirituality, meaning of life, connection and belonging;, compulsive or addictive behaviors, and unwanted personal limitations Including stress and anxiety.
We see people who have achieved material success but cannot freely give and receive love. They feel something is missing. Others are in a life transition, perhaps feeling a loss of meaning in their relationships or careers, a sense of being uninspired with their world
We also work with adults who grew up in difficult or even abusive families, Some, needing a breakthrough, are referred by therapists. We see religious and spiritual practitioners as well as students of the human potential movement who know that something is still missing. And we work with parents who see themselves passing their pain onto their children.
What are the indicators for taking the Hoffman Process?

What are some possible outcomes of the Hoffman Process?
Through the Hoffman Process, you will come to know yourself emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually as never before. The Process offers deep and rapid resolution of emotional issues and enables you to come to terms with life as it is. You can recover the love, happiness, ease of self-expression, and emotional intelligence that are your birthright, and emerge as a renewed powerful and mature adult. It induces a renewed sense of leadership in a person’s life.
How long does it take?
The Hoffman Process is a comprehensive 3month personal development program, the foundation of which is an 8 day intensive residential retreat. We recommend that you spend the two days following the 8 day program as time for personal reflection and integration. On that weekend the whole group reconvenes for a 2 hours tutorial about how to apply the tools of the Process in daily life. Our experience is that participants notice positive results immediately. Of course, there is also a period of adjustment in the days and weeks following the Process while you integrate insights and knowledge into your daily life. For the first 3 weeks after the Process the facilitators track the integration process weekly via phone calls. A final conference call with a particular Process group occurs after 3 months time.
Who presents the Hoffman Process?
All our Hoffman teachers have completed a very rigorous training in the methodology of the Hoffman Process. They are highly trained therapists and mature professionals grounded in various disciplines. Our teachers provide instruction and personalized individual guidance to ensure that each student progresses successfully through the Process and learns tools for ongoing development.
How is the Hoffman Process conducted?
The Hoffman Process is designed to be a safe and supportive environment. Participants will grow personally and will greatly enhance their ability to give and receive emotionally and spiritually. We combine the best of group and individual work to empower your personal journey, which is the core of the work. Teachers employ an empathic and supportive approach, which respects the dignity of each person.
How large is the group? Will I get individual attention?
Typical Process size ranges from 20 to 23 participants with one certified Hoffman Process teacher for every six to eight students.
Where is the Hoffman Process held?
What clothing do I need? Will I need other materials or personal items?
Clothing: comfortable, casual, loose; enough for 8 days; some exercise clothing; one outfit for a casual festive occasion; jackets/sweaters for evening.
You will need a portable CD player or an MP3 player, Ipod or Iphone for listening to audio tutorials during the Post-Process weekend.
Can I meditate or exercise like I usually do?
In order to devote your entire energetic attention to this exploration, students are asked to put aside, for this one week only, their meditation practices, as well as any aerobic exercise regime. The Process provides alternatives. You are encouraged to resume these life-enhancing practices upon your return.
Are there other restrictions during the week of the Process?
During the Process we require participants to refrain from alcoholic beverages, non-prescription mood altering drugs, and sexual activity.
What do I tell my employers or my family regarding my absence?
We ask that during the week of the Hoffman Process you arrange things so that you can fully focus on the work at hand as if you were on a silent meditation retreat. Plan not to make or receive calls. Of course, if an urgent need arises on either end, you can reach your family member or they can reach you through the Hoffman Centre. For parents of young children, it can be arranged to stay in telephone contact with them.
What does it cost?
The new total cost of the Process is AUD $5340. This is includes all tuition, accommodation (Friday to Thursday night inclusive), meals and GST. However, if you book and pay the deposit before 30th June, 2013, for any Process in 2013, then the cost will remain at the old price of AUD $4994. To secure a place we require a $500 non refundable deposit. Accommodation is on a shared basis for people of the same sex. Depending on availability, we may be able to supply a private room for an additional cost. The single room surcharge is $705 (inc. GST).
We require full Process payment 2 weeks before the Process. We offer a $300 Early Bird discount (including GST) if we receive full Process payment no later than 4 weeks prior to the Process commencement date. The Process cost after the Early Bird discount is AUD $5040 (including GST), or if you paid your deposit before 30th June, 2013, then the Process cost, for any 2013 Process, after Early Bird discount is AUD$4694 (including GST) – a total saving of $646.
We accept credit cards, Visa, MasterCard and American Express, as well as cheques, Direct Deposit Telegraphic Transfer (TT), or cash. Please note that a 2.5% surcharge applies if paying by PayPal or credit card.
Deferral/Cancellation Policy: If you change or cancel your Process dates within 14 days of your agreed Process, a $2,500 + GST fee is applicable. If you change or cancel within 7 days of HQP commencement you forfeit the entire fee. (Exemptions are considered if a medical certificate is provided). All other date changes made outside these specified periods incur a $100 +GST administration fee.

What are the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings for this work?
Bob Hoffman began working with individuals intuitively, healing emotional, physical and spiritual wounds. More than 40 years ago. Hoffman created the theory of the “Negative Love Syndrome” and the “Quadrinity” model to describe the basis of his work. As his success began to attract the interest of psychotherapists and other mental health professionals, they were able to point out parallels and differences between Hoffman’s methodology and standard psychotherapeutic models. This is fully described in “The Negative Love Syndrome and the Quadrinity Model” by Bob Hoffman. Subsequent research and theoretical work in the fields of psychology, brain development, education and medicine have confirmed many of Hoffman’s hypotheses. The scientific research community, with the Hoffman Centre’s active cooperation, continues to create opportunities for research studies to measure and assess the results that participants experience.
Who was Bob Hoffman and what is the history of the Hoffman Process?
Renowned for his intuitive capacities, Bob Hoffman was a gifted and generous man dedicated to awakening people to the awesome power of love that dwells within each of us. He believed that unconditional love is the birthright of every human being.
In 1967, Bob Hoffman gained his basic insight into the nature of early childhood conditioning and the mechanism by which that conditioning passed from one generation to the next. For the next five years he collaborated with psychotherapists and psychiatrists to help individuals on a one-to-one basis. In 1972 he and noted psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo, MD began presenting Hoffman’s method in a group setting. Called the “Fischer-Hoffman Process” in honor of the late Siegfried Fischer, MD. Over the next 12 years the Fisher-Hoffman Process gained a reputation for producing deep and lasting results.
In 1976 he authored “Getting Divorced from Mother and Dad”, published by E. P. Dutton and Co., Inc. It was later republished under the title No One is to Blame, Freedom from Compulsive Self-Defeating Behavior. In 2003 this was updated to ‘You Can Change Your Life’ – A Future Different from Your Past with the Hoffman Process. Tim Laurence, founder of the Hoffman Institute UK, trained and worked extensively with Bob Hoffman. This is the first book to detail the practical methods of the eight day intensive course, and is packed with inspiring personal stories and more, and is available at the Hoffman Centre.
In 1985 Hoffman reformatted his program into an 8-day residential intensive, renamed it the Hoffman Quadrinity Process, and then initiated an eight-year period of inspired development and refinement. Over the next eight years, about 30% new material was added until the present form was achieved in 1993. Today the Hoffman Quadrinity Process is presented in twelve countries to some 5000 participants each year.
Mr. Hoffman retired from teaching the Process in 1991. He remained active in his work until his death in 1997.
